Every action has equivalent opposite reaction is Newton's Law. Seemingly inspired by his 'finding' S J Suryah and his director Thai Muthuselvan have dished out a racy and riveting fare that lives up to the title 
Who said commercialsm has overtaken realism in Tamil cinema? Amidst the flock of movies where the hero flex his muscles and utter punch dialogues and sings needless duets in exotic foreign locations, movies like Subramaniapuram, Paruthiveeran and Vennila Kabbadi Kuzhu proved all hopes are not lost. Director Sasi Kumar, who brought a whiff of fresh air to Tamil cinema with Subramaniapuram last 
Tamil movie has crossed boundaries and barriers. It is evident with the grand opening for Tamil movies in US screens. Now going a step further are directors Natty Kumar and Krish Bala. 
Novel themes, Newcomers and unique style of film-making with quick narration is the order of the day in Tamil cinema. Producer S P B Charan, known for introducing fresh talents has taken a bold move coming out with ‘Kunguma Poovum Konjum Pooravum’, which is gripping right from the word go 
What happens when people of contrasting style come together for a film? Vikraman, the director known for his melodrama and Vijayakanth, who made a name for himself for his action-packed ventures team up to render an emotional drama loaded with a strong message. It’s more a ‘Vikraman movie’ with his typical sentimental dialogues and feel good characters. 
Director Selvah proved his mettle as a shrewd film-maker, who can handle remakes well with ‘Naan Avanillai’. This time around he has tried to recreate the magic with remake of Bollywood hit ‘Yes Boss’, which speaks about greed for money and war of emotions 
Clean entertainers have become a rarity in Tamil cinema these days. Full marks to debutant Sree Hari for coming out with a movie that is laced with romance devoid of any clichés and double entendre. What is striking in ‘Karthik Anitha’ is that it is no regular boy meets girl and falling in love story. It is about the tale of friendship, sacrifice with romance as the backbone 
No doubt Gandhi Krishna has consciously chosen not to make any cinematic compromise and retain the essence of the novel. However in achieving the mission, he misses out providing necessary pep and life in the screenplay. ‘Anandha Thandavam’ leaves an impact only in parts thanks mainly to Sujatha 
In ‘Naalai Namadhae’, a title inspired by yesteryear MGR film, Vinayan has gone on to probe why the rich always get richer, while the poor always remain poorer. He has woven the screenplay around the lives of the poor especially those living in slums in particular. The movie boasts of popular star cast which includes Ashish Vidyarthy, Thanikala Bharani, Kiran, Rajan P Dev and Karthika 
Suriya, who proved his credentials as a versatile actor doing varied roles untill recently, has taken a litmus test of doing a mass commercial hero in ‘Ayan’. In the end, he emerges out as a clear winner leaving his impression all through the film 
Much was expected from debutant Azhagar for he was a former associate of director Selvaraghavan. The master is known for his crafty movies with bold themes. Unfortunately protégé has disappointed the fans coming out with a movie that has a preachy storyline with mediocre show by the technicians and the star cast 
Debutant director Rohan Krishna, who worked as assistant with Priyadharshan and Santosh Sivan, has come out with a movie that is strikingly different from the rest. At a time when college campus and romance among the students form the crux in movies, Rohan has opted for life among students in a school. 
Hitherto known for his commercial masala entertainers, Priyadharshan has made a complete film that is educative, engrossing and emotional. On the whole, though the movie may not have commercial elements to entertain masses, it’s a worth watch film that makes one think and ponder 
‘Adada Enna Azhagu’ is a simple tale of a youth falling in love with a young girl in his college. He incurs the wrath of girl's father, an influential Union Minister. They manage to elope from the house and the eventually faces trouble from the Minister There are gory stunts and bloodshed. Did they triumph and marry forms the climax 
Arundhathee is a must watch movie for those who love thrills, suspense and super effects. A movie on reincarnation and re-birth, Arundhathee is here to entertain 
Donning a dual role that of a father and son is Sarath Kumar. However what is strikingly different in this routine commercial formula film is Dinesh Kumar’s sincere attempt to make it look stylish. In a nutshell, it is the story of a son taking cudgels against a gang of baddies in foreign soil to avenge the atrocities they had committed some three decades ago on his father 
Movies that carry a strong message normally lack entertainment value or vice versa. But director S T Gunasekaran has tried to dabble with both in ‘Innoruvan’, which has a strong message besides all commercial elements packed together. It is a rag- to-riches story which is cliched from the word go 
Thriller or horror movies are a rarity in Tamil cinema. Even the little made are loaded with Computer Graphic generated visuals far from convincing the audience. Filling the void is 'Yaavarum Nalam’. All credit to director Vikram Kumar, who has come out an engrossing thriller in the lines of classic horrors by Alfred Hitchcock. An engrossing screenplay with no lagging moments bringing the audience 
Lakshmikanthan deserves a pat for choosing a right script for remake in Tamil making suitable changes that would find favor with the Tamil crowd. 
Charmi makes a comeback in Tamil after a long gap. As a callous young girl, she oozes with confidence on screen. With her charming looks, she fits the role well 
It is a movie sure to appease action-buffs. Had Vinecent Selvah concentrated more on screenplay and ensured that more suspense elements are attached, this Perumal would have blessed his devotees ardently. Missing the bus this time is Sundar C 
'SMS', it is the buzzword in every lip of a youngster. A movie carrying the title is sure to evoke the attention of movie-goers, predominantly youths these days. 
Vigneshwaran has played his part exceedingly well. He manages to bring the right emotions 
Bala scores straightaway with a poignant and touchy narration in the beginning which slowly picks up momentum to end as carnage. Arya with his frightening looks and immaculate body language brings out an animal before us. His rugged looks complimented by his rustic performance add value to the movie. His performance towards the climax will be remembered for years to come 
Kanal Kannan is not new to acting as he had played cameo in several films before. He sticks to his strength (doing acrobatic stunts). He jumps and leaps on screen. 
All hope is not lost in Kollywood! At a time when the theatre-going audience has dwindled and a general criticism prevails that quality has taken a beating in Tamil cinema, 'Vennila Kabbadi Kuzhu' has come a whiff of fresh air. 
Manoj Kumar has performed admirably well and with his body language and perplexed expressions brings before us a man who is constantly searching his identity. 
Yeah! When you've a British Filmmaker and Indian Artists are on the show, 'A mind-boggling' magic goes on. For sure, you wouldn't need an illustration for this. Richard Attenborough's 'The Gandhi' touched the feat of honor. 
Director Suraaj has tried his hand at time-tested theme. An average-looking youth, who falls in love with a rich and a charming girl. He overcomes a gang of baddies who bay for his blood to eventually hold the hands of his beloved. Suraaj has tried a marriagebetween action and comedy. However a sense of deja vu prevails as the film progresses. 
Come a whiff of fresh air in Kollywood is Kadhalna Summa Illai. At a time when larger-than-life themes hold fort in Tamil cinema, Raj TV has ventured to film production with a movie that provides some fodder to the audience. 
The hype and hoopla surrounding Villu, prior to its release was huge. Director Prabhudeva and actor Vijay promised lots of entertainment. Unfortunately the end product is far from impressive as it is a 'chaotic' cocktail of comedy, action and needless stunt sequences far from any logic. 
A remake of Telugu hit 'Chandamama' it is a clean and feel-good family entertainer. Director Sabapathy Dakshinamurthy deserves all credits for retaining the essence of the original making suitable changes for Tamil audience. With the right mix of experience and youth in the star cast, the movie proceeds on a right note with no hitches anywhere. 
Producer Abhirami Ramanathan deserves applause for rendering a movie for kids which is a laugh-a-thon right from word go. 
And at the end of this year, there's a bedazing blockbuster in Indian Box office. Here comes our maestro of perfection swaying on with a different genre from his previous ventures. Merely, producers wouldn't have considered Ghajini as an 'Empaling Speculation' for enormous reasons. Well, when you've South India's top-charting Director, Bollywood's superstar, Musical Maestro and versatile technicia 
Doing a remake is never an easy task. Even remakes from other languages starring big artistes failed to strike a chord with the masses. 'Dindigul Sarathy', inspired by Malayalam hit 'Vadaku Nokki Enthiram' is different and engrossing. 
A youth fighting against injustice in the society is what all films of Perarasu talk about. No different is his ‘Thiruvannamalai’, where the peppy songs, numerous stunt sequences and cameo by Perarasu, all find a place. 
What when a director, who knows the art of narrating human emotions in a gripping manner, a skilled actor, who can do any role with ease and a talented actress, who combines performance and great looks, come together? A quality entertainer. 
The 25th production of Lakshmi Movie Makers, Silambattam boasts of a huge star cast which includes the likes of Prabhu, Sneha, Nedumudi Venu besides Simbhu. However these characters seem to have added no strength to the script as they are too loosely etched. An out-and-out Simbhu show, the movie features the actor in a dual role – that of a father and son. 
After watching Bommalattam, Bharathiraja's bilingual venture, one cannot help being overawed by the excellence of Nana Patekar – easily one of the best actors India has ever produced. Designed as a film within a film the movie explores the quintessential life of a talented film director viewed as an eccentric from time to time. 
Debutant director Vadivudayan's 'Saamida' is the latest to join the list. The entire story unfolds in the temple town of Kasi. It narrates the love and affection that prevails between a woman (a don) and her trusted aide. 
Taking a cue from his mentor Lingusamy's maiden directorial venture 'Anandham', Ravi has etched out a good entertainer. 
No wonder director Shaji Kailash is revered as a successful director in Malayalam film industry. The Tamil version of his 'Chintamani Kola Case' starring RK is an engrossing tale which speaks about loopholes in Indian Legal System. The movie is an engrossing tale narrated in a racy phase, which makes the audience glued to their seats 
A cinematic adaptation of Tamilchelvan's short story 'Veyyilodu Poi', 'Poo' successfully carries over the literary flavor to celluloid. Hats off to director Sasi for the transition! 
'Thenavattu' has come as a blessing in disguise for all Jeeva fans as the actor sings, romances, utters punch dialogues, thrashes the villains and evokes sentiment on screen. All credit to debutant V V Kathir, who seems to be well versed with the art of making a 'Pakka' commercial from his mentor Perarasu, a trendsetter with his commercial smash hits. 
The narration of the film has been designed to follow a 'classic approach'. Unfortunately, all the ingredients that go into the making of a classic are missing thereby making the screenplay stagnate at times to irritable proportions. All films that have been successful in being called classics portray enduring human emotions that can be related with instantaneously. 
Pandhaya Kozhi is trusted entirely upon the hero and its Narain's show all the way. The young actor has left no stones unturned - he evokes laughter, runs around trees romancing the heroine and flexes his muscles to take out the goons. 
Hari's treatment to the screenplay reminds us of several films made some four decades ago. A sense of watching a mega serial prevails at many places. Murugesan (Bharath), a village vagabond spends most of his time with his uncle Thapal Thangavel (Vadivel), the village postman. One day Murugesan meets Parijatham (Poonam Bajwa) a Brahmin girl and falls for her. 
It was the much-expected movie, much talked about and waited with anticipation by Ajith-fans. A remake of Hindi hit Main Hoon Na, Aegan eventually proved to be a movie which is packed with punch but lacked crunch. 
Thanks to Ravikrishna's bold performance and catchy musical score by Anil, the movie manages to sustain the interest of the audience. If you haven’t seen the movie yesterday, then see it today or tomorrow because it’s worth a watch. 
Arjun steals the thunder with his action sequences. He is there everywhere on the screen. As a macho-man, he fits the role admiringly well. ‘Durai’ is a perfect example of how a racy theme could be presented with commercial masala elements. 
Romance can do wonders in a man's life. It can make a man or it can even break a man. Debutant director Prasad has chronicled the life of a youth, who life takes a huge turn after he develops a romance in ‘Kadhalil Vizhunthen’. 
Shantanoo Bagyaraj's debut film 'Sakarakatti' comes across as a lackluster film with a screenplay that fails to impress right through. Though the young actor seems bubbly, his efforts have been wasted with contrived dialogues and clichéd sequences. 
'Raman Thediya Seethai' is a film sans 'masala' and with a few negligible stunt sequences. Its success will definitely score a point in the right direction and probably might even encourage many other filmmakers to tread the path of Storytelling devoid of mindless stuff. 
It is rich, trendy and quite different from the rest. It is a yuppie film which speaks of the life in upper and upper middle class aristocratic families in a city like Chennai. In a nutshell, Krishna Seshadri Gomadam has dealt in detail about a youth, who is aspiring to make a mark as a film director in the tinsel town of Kollywood. In between he has humor and other emotions in his life. 
The movie is about Sathya (Nithin Sathya), a college student and an ardent fan of actor Vijay. Sathya comes across Sindhu (Sindhu Thulani), sister of an influential Minister Masanam (Prakashraj). Impressed by Masanam's sister, Sathya decides to romance her. However his friends warn him off incurring the wrath of Masanam. Sathya wins the confidence of Masanam by enacting a play and becomes his trus 
Vijay has recreated the magic of Jaideep Sahini's original well to suit the Tamil audience. The movie starts with a funny scene and what is commendable is that the fun continues throughout. Talented stars like Nedumudi Venu, Cochin Haneefa, Nasser and Mouli have been ably supported by the young brigade. 
Krishna, who resembles his brother, is cool and suave in the film. His body language and mannerisms suit the role well. He manages to fight well but needs to work out his portrayal in emotional sequences. Janani fails to pass the muster as she looks quite ordinary on screen. The on-screen chemistry between the lead pair is unfortunately missing. 
Fun, frolic and mayhem were in abundance in Venkat Prabhu's first directorial venture 'Chennai 600028'. With his second film 'Saroja' the director dutifully follows the same pattern despite having the backdrop of a thriller featuring a kidnap, gun totting desperados and characters with malicious intent. 
Dhanam (Sangeetha) is a call girl in Hyderabad. She does flesh trade only to help the poor people living in her colony. Anantharaman (Prem), a Brahmin youth is fascinated by her and decides to marry her. She reciprocates his love and agrees to marry him on the condition that his family should accept their marriage. The first thing that has to be said about 'Dhaam Dhoom' is that the man who envisioned the project and started making things happen - master cinematographer and director Jeeva would have been a mighty proud man if he had lived to see the release of the film. 
Vinay is quite successful in donning a sophisticated and cool demeanor and seems to have traces of his 'naughty' expressions from 'Unnale Unnale' especially in the company of the two leading ladies Bhavana and Lekha Washinton. Kishore as the menacing gangster needs to be appreciated for his performance. The actor seems to have carried on the good work from 'Polladhavan'. 
Director Saravana Sakthi has dished out an action-packed entertainer inspired by the Hollywood flick 'Cellular'. The movie has enough commercial elements and the fast narration of events maintains momentum throughout the film. If you can walk in with no expectations, you will very well come out quite pleased. 
Director Rajasekar, who has come out with a tight subject in the first film itself has weaved his day to day experiences during his tenure as a journalist as a racy script, which may be liked by the audience in Andhra Pradesh, than those in Tamilnadu. 
How many times had you walked out of theatre emotionally choked after watching a Rajnikanth film? How many times had you times had you seen Rajnikanth not uttering a punch dialogue in his films? How many times had you not seen Rajnikanth not flexing his muscles and bashing the baddies in his movie? 
Ratheesh hails from a poor family and manages to secure good marks in his school final examinations. He gets admission in a prominent college in Chennai. He falls in love with Priyashree, who studies in the same college. His life then takes an unfortunate turn. 
The story, set in the 80s, takes place in Madurai Subramaniapuram, a suburb of the city. Movies like Palaivana Cholai dwelt around four friends. Perhaps Sasikumar impressed by such classics, has made an attempt of chronicling the life of a group of friends. 
The veteran has proved once again that he has not lost all his touch in spite of his busy schedule with ‘Ulliyin Osai’. The film is inspired by Karunanidhi's ‘Sarapallam Samundi’, and turns out to be an interesting and engrossing film. 
'Saidai Sathya' (Sundar C) is a goon, hired for all illegal activities. He along with his friend 'Traffic Kandasamy' spend 30-days in a Gandhi Museum for a wrong-act, following a High Court order. Both come to know about Gandhi and develop a passion for him. They win the admiration of the museum's in-charge and freedom fighter Nasser. 
Chaya Singh, who is identified with the peppy number Manmadharasa, has really taken off to the next level in terms of her acting. She has emoted very well in the film. Madhumitha has extracted the best out of the actress and Chaya Singh on her part has not let down her director 
One striking feature that hits you in the face once you have watched ‘Dasavatharam’ is Kamal Haasan's passion for filmmaking. All the ten roles he has essayed have been meticulously planned right from the body language to dialogue delivery. 
If student politics was the crux of Karan's earlier venture 'Thee Nagar', the actor is back with a strong message in 'Kathavarayan'.Stay away from liquor and drugs. You will lead a happy and healthy life. This forms the crux of Karan's 'Kathavarayan'. Debutant director Salangai Durai has dished out a commercial entertainer which laced with this strong message. 
A youth, who is ridiculed by his family for being callous and not caring, eventually turns out to be a responsible son taking care of the entire family. 
Though Vijayakanth has donned Khakhi in several films before, in ‘Arasangam’ he plays an instructor in a police training college where in he is brawny as well as brainy. He lends solidity to his role and underplays. He deserves a pat for not tempting to overdo his role. 
Monica, hitherto playing conservative girl in movies like ‘Azhagi’, has taken to glamour with ‘Silandhi’. She plays a newly-married girl, who runs for her life. Munna is cast as her lovable husband, who helps her overcome her troubles. 
‘Kuruvi’, a racy thriller loaded with romance and action, is a sure treat for Vijay fans. 
‘Arai En 305il Kadavul’, produced by Shankar's S Pictures, is totally a different one from Simbhudevan's maiden venture (Imsai Arasan). While Imsai...was loaded with comedy and one-liner, Arai En is sentimental, emotional and conveys a strong message. 
Hats off director Raja and Jeyam Ravi for hitting the bull's eye for the fourth time in a row. The duo continues from where they left in Unakum Enakum to provide a feel-good light-hearted family entertainer sure to be enjoyed with the family. 
The movie has enough doses of romance, action and bloodshed. Unfortunately Durai has missed out on blending them properly. 
After an action-packed 'Polladhavan', he has come up with romance-filled 'Yaradi Nee Mohini', a remake of his brother Selvaraghavan's recent Telugu hit 'Adavari Matalaku Ardhalu Verulay'. 
Vijay (Arun Vijay) has a younger brother Vadhan (Jerovadhan), who cannot digest failure. Vijay is determined to see that Vadhan gets whatever he wants. He bribes the potential winners of a running race to ensure Vadhan’s success. He beats up a whole gang of thugs to make Vadhan to become collage chairman. Finally, when his brother wants to marry a girl, he is shattered. It is his girlfriend, who i 
Inba suffers by a predictable script and a dull treatment. The film would have been better had the director developed the story based on the past of the protagonist. Instead he uses it as just a backdrop to tell you a routine love – action drama 
Director Sakthi Chithambaram leaves no stone unturned in his pursuit to dole out a surefire masala flick. The mix of fights, glamour, songs, sentiments, and comedy could definitely attract a sort of crowd, which doesn’t bother about logic or maturity in film making. The director has woven together Sundar C’s incredible heroism, inimitable sex appeal (?) of Namitha, unimaginative and vulgar comedy 
Eyes cannot see each other, despite being near by to each other. So is the position of the lovers. They live near by but they cannot see each other. Reason? 
When a director decides to launch a high profile youngster as an action and romantic hero with a typical and clichéd ‘masala’ film, there is little that you could expect from the film in terms of finesse and content. 
Director Vidyadharan has tried to give a different colour to the usual tussle between an individual and a powerful politician by bringing in reincarnation theory. Nevertheless, he hasn’t fully relied upon the theory to make the proceedings move ahead. He has deftly created a two-layered script that operates along the parallel lines of divinity and logic. 
‘Vellithirai’ is all about two friends who want to make it big in tinsel town. Saravanan (Prithviraj), a well-informed person in filmmaking wants to become a director. Kannaiya (Prakash Raj) on the other hand has a dream to become a big star without trying to develop the necessary qualities to become one. Saravanan is a genuine person, who believes in hard work and sincerity, while Kannaiya is rea 
Director Rajkapoor has made it pretty clear that he is not intended to make any effort to make the movie with substance. Though he has shown his ability to execute scenes that are worth to be parts of a masala flick, he hasn’t taken any strain to make it credible. 
Director Selva has done a few things in a different manner. He hasn’t depicted the clichéd love between a thug and a girl from a normal family. He has attributed the attachment to the sense of gratitude. The girl’s aversion towards rowdies is well portrayed. 
‘Silanerangalil’, directed by Jaya Raj and produced by Ram New Light Productions Ltd, founded by 4 US based NRI, tells you a thriller with a very different backdrop. The reincarnation angle adds different colour to the murder mystery is. The movie has the support of a tight script, lively music, spectacular cinematography, and powerful performances by the main actors. 
Siva (Ajay), an IT professional, falls in love with Bhanu (Sriji), a bubbly girl. Her brother (Rakshai), a terrorist, is planning to bomb Chennai city. He plants a shoe bomb on Siva and dumps him in the city center and asks him to start running. If he slows down it will explode killing all the people near him. 
Director Athiyaman has crafted a script that has entertainment value entwined with a suspense element. The twists keep the momentum intact. Athiyaman’s execution of some scenes is praiseworthy. The way he builds up the suspense makes the proceeding interesting and intriguing. Thoondil impresses with its suspense element, deft handling, and good performances. 
Anjathey is a smartly executed crime thriller with the able support of credible performances, effective back ground music, excellent cinematography and sleek editing. 
Ahathiyan impresses by his theme, execution of emotional scenes, characterization of the Anandhi, and sensible dialogues. 
Director Siddhique, who had earlier given films like ‘Friends’ and ‘Engal Anna’ is known for his comical treatment. In ‘Sadhu Miranda’ he has done the same with a dash of thriller. He has, in the process, given Prasanna a new identity as an actor. 
Prem deserves to be appreciated for his courage and hard work to come out with a thriller with a racy script, without no songs and other commercial ingredients.
